NEWS: Shelly Horton shines a light on HS sufferers in awareness campaign

“I knew it would be hard, but I had no idea I’d spend the afternoon sobbing.” To help raise awareness of the chronic illness Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), Shelly participated in an Immersion Project that saw her living a day in the life of one the 130,000 Australians who are effected by the auto immune disease.

To develop a realistic understanding of the symptoms, Shelly wore specially designed underwear and restraints to mimic the symptoms of this painful disease.  After the experience Shelly said, “I did a lot of soul searching after this project. It made me realise you don’t appreciate good health until it’s no longer there. I have so much compassion and empathy for HS sufferers.
