The Suite Life - April 2023

*Tap tap tap*… is this thing on?

It’s Courts here, taking over from Sim while she’s been enjoying some epic Aus Grand Prix action in Melbourne. April is here and that means goodbye humidity and hello Easter, chocolate and cooler temps. While I have the mic I thought I’d highlight some of the content pieces we’ve been working on in the last month, including delicious food demos with Dr Joanna McMillan, a beautiful e-magazine for our friends at HomeMakerCentral, stunning showreels and powerful podcasting content – so in a nutshell, loads!

On the talent side, there’s plenty to celebrate starting with Michael and Carlene Duffy’s gorgeous new book This Old Van, Dr Tim Sharp’s insightful audiobook Habits for Mastering Anger, plus the welcome return to our TV screens of both Dr Preeya Alexander and Simon Toohey (on Good Chef Bad Chef and Freshly Picked respectively).

I hope everyone gets some phone-free time and enjoys a quiet chocolate-filled Easter break. I’m looking forward to my five-star review of this EDM 😉.

Til next month,

Courts

Launch day is almost here for Michael and Carlene Duffy, with their first book This Old Van hitting stores on Wednesday. The dynamic duo showcase their design ethos and renovation skills in this beautiful design bible, which chronicles the inspirations and renovation for all five of the famous vintage vans the couple are known for – including their most recent project lovingly named ‘Goldie’. This book is a must for those looking to renovate a vintage van, any kind of small space or tiny home and of course, for all design enthusiasts. You can order your copy here.

Meanwhile, psychiatrist Dr Kieran Kennedy and health editor Scott Henderson have combined forces to create The MANual, a must-read book dedicated to improving men’s wellbeing. The MANual is due for release in June 2023. Together Scott and Kieran provide a blueprint for modern manhood in their guide that traverses everything from mental health and relationships, to exercise and nutrition. You can pre-order your copy here.

Need some meal inspo? GP and newly minted author Dr Preeya Alexander – whose book Eat Sleep Play Love is also out in May (and is available for pre-order now via this link) – is currently serving up delicious, healthy food on Good Chef Bad Chef, weekdays at 4pm on Network Ten. On the same network, chef and sustainability advocate Simon Toohey shares his tips and tricks for tasty plant-based meals on Freshly Picked with Simon Toohey (catch it on TenPlay). Yum!

Pssst… have you listened to Dr Tim Sharp’s audiobook Habits For Mastering Anger yet? We all need a little help managing this tricky emotion, and Dr Happy’s Audible.com book delivers a range of proven strategies and techniques. Listen in here.

In other talent news, congratulations to Ellie Cole on her appointment as the Australian team’s general manager for the 2023 Trinbago Commonwealth Youth Games. With three Commonwealth Games and four Paralympics behind her, Ellie will no doubt lead the team with passion and humour at the games in August. In the meantime, you can catch Ellie with fellow Optus ambassador Ash Barty, having a laugh in their new content series designed to inspire.

Speaking of exceptional sportswomen, rally driver Molly Taylor and her team Veloce Racing have zoomed their way to a double podium in Round 1 of the Extreme E racing series (held in Saudi Arabia last month), putting them at the top of the championship leaderboard. The next race (another double header) takes place in Scotland on 13-14 May. You can catch all the action and cheer Molly on across Fox Sports and Kayo.

Drum roll, please…

The Creative team is delighted to welcome two new team members! Kate MacAlpine, our specialist Health & Lifestyle partnerships manager, has joined us from Domain. Kate also has significant experience in health and sport from her previous experience at Pacific Magazines. Working alongside her is the lovely Chloe Chebli, who is already making a mark as our new content and production executive.

Production wise, we’ve been focused on creating the first of a series of e-magazines for new online homeware shopping destination HomeMakerCentral – set to change the face of furniture and homeware shopping. You can access it here.
