The Suite Life - July 2023

Happy New Financial Year!

Whether it’s hybrid working or Bare Minimum Mondays, the way we work is generating a lot of conversation at the moment. With support for corporate wellbeing (including content and keynote presentations) remaining an important part of our offering here at TLS, I’m always curious to understand the trends we’re seeing in the way we work.

I recently came across a statistic that really stopped me in my tracks. According to the State of the Global Workplace 2023 Report, the way we communicate with each other in the workplace has 3.8 times more influence on employee stress levels than the location that we work from. “No location can ‘fix’ poor management, and the office alone has no magic to create a great organisational culture,” the authors noted. So, what then can organisations do to drive culture even if their workforce isn’t hubbed in a central location? One way we've seen remote workplaces connect is through shared content that supports each member of the team’s professional and personal development, resulting in boosted productivity and happiness levels. If you’re a manager and you think your team might benefit from something like this, it’s the perfect time to reach out to us about ways to help your staff feel engaged and better skilled to manage stress. There couldn’t be a better time of year to do it than as we kick off FY24. Check out more below.

Meanwhile, if your workplace (and household!) is battling a steady and snotty stream of winter illnesses, then it’s time for some winter recipes that can warm you up and support your immunity. Here dietitian and nutritional scientist, Dr Joanna McMillan shares one of her favourites -–her delicious Chicken Meatball Turmeric recipe.

Enjoy!

Did you know that diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia, and with one Aussie being diagnosed every five minutes, we all need to be playing a greater role in helping reduce the prevalence of this serious condition. National Diabetes Week hits next week (July 9-15), so reach out if you’d like to tap one of our talent for comment or expertise.

Meanwhile, our talent have been capturing plenty of attention in the media, with swim legend Ellie Cole making a splash in a gorgeous shoot for Vogue Australia, and gracing the cover of Body+Soul magazine where she opens up about her new life post-sport; and the phenomenal Dr Preeya Alexander unpacks a worrying new trend – AI’s toxic body shapes – on the News Corp podcast Healthy-ish; and gives us an insight into hers and hubby Willy’s life on the Separate Bathrooms podcast. Both are well worth a listen.

Rally star Molly Taylor continues to impress on and "off" the track, so it’s little wonder that the team at Castrol have snapped her up for a multi-year partnership. To celebrate, Molly took on three other motorsport legends in the Castrol Edge Challenge race for some high-octane fun – it’s well worth a watch. Next up Molly takes on Sardinia in Rounds 5 and 6 of the Extreme E series. We’ll be supporting her all the way as she and the Veloce Racing team attempt to extend their championship lead in the series.

There’s no doubt it’s a time of radical transformation in workplace practices. More than ever, your employees need extra help to feel connected to – and supported by – their managers. That might sound like a daunting proposition for employers, but thankfully our team has a wealth of experience when it comes to content and programs that arm workers with wellbeing info and a sense of belonging; find out more here. Check out the link here to get an understanding of the types of editorial content we have available featuring TLS experts Dr Tim Sharp, Dr Joanna McMillan and Dr Gina Cleo. We also have a library of short form video and podcast content available. Email us to understand how we can work with your business to curate something specifically for your teams.

The MANual, an essential guide to men’s wellbeing, came out last month and it’s absolutely bursting with gems you’ll want to underline on the page. Bravo to authors Scott Henderson and Dr Kieran Kennedy, who’ve done a stellar job tackling men’s wellbeing in a way that’s entertaining and informative. Grab a copy for the man in your life here.

With some incredible sportswomen in our suite, we’re passionate about flying the flag for female athletes. Just 6 per cent of sports media coverage goes to women in sport, which is appalling when you consider the depth of talent and audience support and appetite. In fact, recent Foxtel research found viewing of women’s sport has increased by 18 per cent since 2022 and at last week’s NSW Office of Sport Trendspotter Forum, sports marketing agency Gemba Group shared that “sponsorship of women’s sport is more likely to lead to better brand outcomes compared to sponsorship of men’s sport” across awareness, attitudes and behaviours.

As Australia embarks on a ‘golden decade of sport’ in this country and with the the 2026 Commonwealth Games and 2032 Olympic Games just around the corner, there are tonnes of opportunities for all of us – audiences, brands and broadcasters to get behind our nation’s sportswomen. First up is the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which kicks off on July 20 across Australia and New Zealand. Keep an eye out for our girl Ellie Cole, one of the Beyond Greatness champions for the event. Bring it on!
